Colorado Supermarket Shooter Fit To Undergo Trial, Judge Says

AHMAD AL ALISI ALISSA SHOOTER IN COLORADO

Colorado District Judge Ingrid Bakke has ruled that Ahmad Al Aliwi Alissa, accused of killing 10 people in 2021, is fit to stand trial.

Bakke said Alissa’s evaluators diagnosed him with schizophrenia but he isn’t suffering from delusions that interfere with his ability to stand trial.

In Dec 2021, Alissa was deemed unfit to stand trial after a team of doctors ruled him incompetent to stand trial.

Judge Bakke “strongly urged” the Colorado Mental Health Institute (CMHI) in Pueblo to continue to keep Alissa in its custody.

Ahmad Al Aliwi Alissa shot 10 people to death at a Boulder, Colorado supermarket in March 2021.

Alissa was able to purchase a Ruger AR-556 semi-automatic rifle used in the shooting after passing a background check.

In 2018, Alissa was sentenced to one year probation, 48 hours of community service and anger response treatment after attacking a high school classmate.

Alissa’s condition improved significantly when he began court-ordered medication, marking a turning point in his restoration to competency.
